This is the third instalment of our series [OS (Orient Star) Style] in which we ask popular stylists to recommend new Orient Star models. This time we are featuring two models, the M34 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase and M34 F7 Semi Skeleton, both with organic mother-of-pearl dials evoking the aurora at dawn.

Modelling these elegant models today is Kohei Kubo, a stylist known for his work in magazines and advertisements. We asked him to talk us through how he matched the watch with his personal style, as well as his impression after wearing the two models.

Beautiful colour of organic mother-of-pearl!

“I own a lot of black items. This outfit, consisting of a collarless jacket and pants, is entirely black. But I like to use watches and accessories to add a touch of playfulness to dressy, elegant outfits. Today, I chose to wear a beaded necklace. The most attractive thing about this watch is the beauty of the organic mother-of-pearl dial, and the way it glimmers when you look at it from certain angles.”

“There are many dress shirts with buttons made of shell. I think it’s chic when you subtly match your shirt buttons to your watch dial. Fashion trends continue to change, but the desire to add a touch of chic playfulness to your outfits is timeless.”

Accessories for adults!

“My second outfit consists of a cardigan, denim pants, braces and sunglasses. All of the items are black, but the different materials each bring their own nuances to the outfit. The watch’s mother-of-pearl dial gives a subtle hint of colour, and its lustre is especially accentuated by the soft aura of the mohair (yarn made from the hair of Angora goats) cardigan.

Mr. Kubo often styles business suits for professional occasions, and says “Business attire is becoming increasingly casual, but the watch is still one of the few accessories permitted for men. The simple design of the two models makes them easy to style for a variety of daily scenarios.”

The first watch modelled by Mr. Kubo is the M34 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase. It has a moon phase and date display at 6 o’clock, and a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock that shows the remaining power reserve.

Exquisite pairing of colours

The mother-of-pearl with gradation expresses a scene that beautifully shifts from moment to moment. The gradation effect extends from 6 o’clock to 12 o’clock, adorning the dial with different shades of grey. Due to the nature of the organic material, each dial is slightly different in terms of base colour and pattern, giving them a one-of-a-kind feel.

Edgy case shape

The powerful case design is sharp and edgy, with a mirror finish achieved by thoroughly smoothing out the surface with Sallaz polishing. The dual curved sapphire crystal not only improves visibility, but also allows the wearer to fully experience the beautiful colour transitions of the mother-of-pearl dial.

The second watch modelled by Mr. Kubo today is the M34 F7 Semi Skeleton, again with an organic mother-of-pearl dial. The small seconds is positioned at 6 o’clock, the semi skeleton at 9 o’clock and power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock.

Secret behind the comfortable fit

Both of the models appearing today have bracelets with short pitch H-shaped links for a comfortable fit on the wrist. The chamfering on the sides of the bracelet feels pleasant to the touch and provide wearing comfort. Another point to note is the combination of hairline and mirror finish that gives the watches a stylish impression.

Dual curved sapphire crystal!

The dual curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective (SAR) coating on both sides of the glass offers heightened visibility, not only making it easier to tell the time and look at the displays but also highlighting the dial’s beauty and its changing expressions depending on the angle of view. Sapphire crystal is also used on the see-through case back.
